Wins  World  Ranking  Tournament

Felix McBrearty became a local hero in his home town as well as being world recognised when he defeated a host of top World PDC Professionals at the Dromore Leisure Complex to claim the 8th annual Ireland’s Open Darts Classic event in fantastic style which puts him on the roll of honours list with some of the world’s greatest players Roland Scholten (Holland, 2001), John Part (Canada, 2002),  Mark Dudbridge (England, 2003), Phil Taylor  (England, 2004 & 2005), Mick McGowan   (Ireland, 2006), Dennis Ovens   (England, 2007) and now the three times Tyrone Individual Champion Felix Mc Brearty (Tyrone) is added to that impressive list after he defeated Chris Mason to lift the title.

The Dromore player came through a qualifier just to win a place in the £20,000 main PDC Pro Tour event on Friday night, but swept through the field to claim the £5,000 first prize.

He overcame Tony Ayres, Kevin McDine, Colin Osborne and Michael van Gerwen to reach the quarter-finals of the tournament, before defeating Andy Hamilton 3-2.

Cheered on by the 200 plus home crowd he then defeated Colin Lloyd who is ranked number nine in the order of merit in straight sets, with all three sets ending 2-1.

Co Stompe, Andy Smith (winner), Mick Mc Gowan (winner), Tony Eccles.

The Dromore star who entered the tournament as a rank outsider finished off the tournament with another fantastic performance taking six successive legs defeating Chris Mason 3-1 to be crowned 2008 Ireland’s Open Darts Classic champion receiving £5,000 for his efforts and going alongside some great champions of this event including 13 times World Champion Phil “THE POWER” Taylor who is a twice winner.

Tournament organiser Ronnie Boyle stated, "I have seen Felix play in many tournaments down through the years against top players both Irish and overseas professionals and always new he was fantastic player, but in the manner he went about it, and also the way he conducted himself throughout this World PDC Ranking Event was amazing with two words describing his victory.“WORLD CLASS”.

Felix was going for back to back tournament victories over the weekend playing fantastic darts in Sunday’s Ulster Open Championship which seen him record a 10 darter in his early round match but lost in the semi-finals to Ronnie Baxter who also recorded a 10 darter.

After Felix’s great achievement the Dromore darts machine has now officially joined the World PDC Darts Circuit getting ready to play in there official ranking tournaments which takes place around the world and hopefully he might secure a place in a major TV event after his wonderful achievement .

Ulster Open Darts Championship:

Brendan Dolan who hails from Co. Fermanagh and who his a PDC member defeated his fellow professional Ronnie Baxter in the final on a 6-3 score-line to be crowned 2008 Ulster Open Darts Champion played alongside Ireland’s Open Classic.

The tournament was played in a Double Elimination format with Brendan going into the knockout stages as the group winner.

The Co. Fermanagh player was in tremendous form throughout the tournament battling his way through a top class field of players starting his victories over his Brother John Joe in the last-32 which went right down to the wire with Brendan just getting over the line on a 5-4 score-line and followed that up with wins over Darren Gurney (last-16,5-2), Andy Jenkins (¼-finals, 5-1), Dennis Ovens (semi-finals, 5-4) and then Ronnie Baxter 6-3 in a fantastic final to be crowned champion.

Felix Mc Brearty was going for back to back tournament victories playing fantastic darts which seen him record a 10 darter in his early round match but lost in the semi-finals to Ronnie Baxter who also recorded a 10 darter.

Open Doubles:

Mick McGowan who hails from Balbriggan Dublin and his fellow PDC professional Andy Smith came through Avery strong field of players to be crowned 2008 Ulster Open Doubles Champions played at the Lough Erne Hotel, Kesh, Co. Fermanagh defeating another fantastic PDC pairing of Co Stompe and Tony Eccles in the final on a 5-2 score-line.


There other victories came over John Joe Dolan & James Deery, Roy Bailie & Brian Cathcart, Campbell Jackson & Andy Howarth, Steve Beaton & Jon Archer and then Co Stompe & Tony Eccles in the final.
