Doubles Championship.
The Tyrone pairing of Danny Mc Callion (Strabane)
and Aidy Patton (Strabane) became the second winners of the Northwest Open
Darts Doubles Championship defeating last years champions of Paul Mein (Dungannon)
and Justin Mc Guigan (Tattyreagh) in a classic final with the runner-ups putting
in a gallant effort trying to retain the title they won 12 months ago.

The second annual Northwest Doubles Championship
was once again staged and hosted by the Castle Hotel venue in Newtownstewart,
Co. Tyrone with over 60 players gathering for this great tournament attracting
top class players from throughout the province and also the Rep of Ireland
which included the international pairings of John Elder / Brian Cathart (Antrim),
Campbell Jackson / Daryl Gourney (Derry) and the recent 2008 winner of the
Packie Donnelly memorial tournament Aodhagan O’Neill who partnered Noel Reilly
(Cavan) just to mention a few but it was the Mc Callion and Patton partnership
everyone was taking about come Saturday evening.

Danny and Aidy played outstanding darts throughout
the tournament to be crowned champions scoring quite a few 180’s, hitting
big scores, finishing high checkouts and recording some fantastic results
on route to victory over Mark McLoughlin / Marty McLoughlin (last-32, 3-0),
Niall Louge / John Monteith (last-16, 3-0), Gary Mayse / Kevin McLaughlin
(¼-finals, 4-0), Colin Maxwell / Christy Fisher (semi-finals, 4-0) before
overcoming the challenge of last years champions of Paul Mein / Justin Mc
Guigan in a classic final which went right down to the final game with the
Strabane pairing just getting over the line on a 5-4 score-line.

on there achievement by becoming 2008 Northwest Open Doubles Champions who
received the £400 winners cheque for there tournament victory with the runner-ups
Paul Mein & Justin Mc Guigan receiving £200 while £100 each went to each
semi-finals.
A special thanks must go to John Gallagher
and his friendly and hard working staff at the Castle Hotel, Newtownstewart
for all the food they provided and the warm welcome they give to each and
every player throughout the day with the tournament now becoming a well recognised
annual event for all dart players on the tournament diary.
