Kevin Mc Dine  Becomes  10th  Winner

Young PDC darts player Kevin Mc Dine was crowned 2008 champion at the 10th annual West Tyrone Open Darts Classic and picked up the £2,000 first prize with a dazzling display throughout the tournament including the 7-4 defeat of Kevin Painter in the final where he recorded seven 180’s to the Artist two.

Mc Dine has now joined the prestigious roll of honours list of the West Tyrone Open Classic which includes Shane Burgess, John Part and Colin Lloyd all twice winners along with Peter Manley, Chris Mason and Lionel Sams.

The tournament seen the event limited to 64 players playing in 16 groups of four in a round robin format with the top two players in each group progressing to the knockout stages before joining the 32 seeded players on the final day.

On route to victory Kevin defeated a host of top Irish and PDC players starting it all off from the last-64 over Shane Lennon (Armagh), two times Irish open champion Felix Mc Brearty (Tyrone, 5-2), Peter Evison (5-4), Steve Beaton (5-3) and Chris Mason in the semi-finals 6-3 before overcoming the challenge of Kevin Painter 7-4 in the final.

Highlights:

The current 2007 Tyrone Individual Darts Champion Mickey Mansell who hails from Clonoe in Co. Tyrone put in one of the finest displays by any local player at the 10th annual West Tyrone Open Darts Festival to reach the semi-finals of the main West Tyrone Open Darts Classic event.

Mickey was in tremendous form right from the start playing fantastic darts topping his group with three wins out of three in the Saturday nights open qualifiers played in a round robin format to progress to the last-64 knockout stages on the Sunday where he would be joined by the other 31 qualifiers and the 32 seeded players.

With play starting at 1pm on Sunday afternoon the current Tyrone Individual Champion was out of the blocks right from the off defeating World PDC players round by round to make-it into the semi-finals with performances that any professional would be proud of.

On route to the semi-finals Mickey defeated the following PDC players from the last-64 Brian Cathcart (last-64, 5-3), Jamie Harvey (last-32, 5-1), Tony Eccles (last-16, 5-3) and the current West Tyrone Champion 12 months ago Lionel Sams in the ¼-finals on a 5-4 score-line before losing 6-1 to the inform Kevin Painter.

This was a tremendous display as you can see from the Clonoe player defeating all these top class PDC players along the way in  reaching the semi-finals in a major tournament which can only give him great confidents  for the 2008 Tyrone Individual Darts Championship when Mickey will be trying to defend his title he won 12 months ago on Saturday 22nd March 2008 taking place in the Village Inn Killyclogher.

Mickey also came through a top class field of over 80 Irish players on Friday afternoon to reach the ¼- finals of the Irish Open “Kevin McGrath Memorial” only to be defeated by

Irish Open:

The 10th annual Irish open which was renamed the Kevin McGrath memorial and only open to Irish based players seen a good turnout of Irish PDC members including the 2008 champion Brendan Dolan who retained his title he won 12 months ago with a 5-4 score-line over Tyrone’s Paul Mein in a cracking final.

West Tyrone Open Doubles:

The 10th annul open doubles event seen four PDC players contest the final when they put on a good display with Peter Evison & Brian Catcart emerging as champions.

West Tyrone 3-Aside Pro-am:

The 3-aside Pro-Am  seen some fantastic displays from all teams in this popular pro-am event with the winners being Michael Blair, Shane O’ Connor, Campbell Jackson who defeated Cliff Lazarenko, Aodhagan O’Neill, Eamon Mc Govern in a great final.
