Daryl Gurney Crowned 2009 North Fermanagh Open Darts Champion

The second annual North Fermanagh Open Individual Darts Championship took place once again at the Kesh Football & Cricket Club in Kesh Co. Fermanagh on Saturday past (24th October) and for the second year running the tournament attracted a large turnout of quality dart players from throughout the province but come Saturday evening there was only one man's name on everyone's mind and that was the brilliant young darts player from Co. Derry called Daryl Gurney…….

Daryl who made his appearance at the Lakeside World Darts Championship last year which was shown to millions right around the world on BBC television and who has also qualified for this years event was in tremendous form throughout the tournament recording fantastic victories, big scores and high checkouts along the way to see of the challenge of Michael Tinnoney (Donegal, last-32, 4-1), Eugene Mc Cusker (Fermanagh, last-16, 4-2), Gary Moore (Tyrone, ¼-finals, 5-1), Thomas Stoga (Poland, semi-finals, 5-1) before putting on a brilliant display in the final to record a 6-1 victory over Paul Mein (Tyrone)…….

In the final Daryl came up against the former N. Ireland international Paul Mein (Tyrone) who was also in superb form throughout the day recording brilliant victories over top class players to reach his first North Fermanagh Open Championship final with one of his victories over former Irish number one ranked player Aodhagan O' Neill in the ¼-finals winning a last game decider to claim a 5-4 win on this occasion with his other victories coming against Danny McDaid (Derry, last-64, 4-2), Campbell Jackson (Derry, last-32, 4-1), Noel Reilly (Cavan, last-16, 4-2), Aodhagan O' Neill (Cavan, ¼-final, 5-4), Gerald Maguire (Tyrone, semi-finals, 5-4) before losing to the inform Gurney who produced three fantastic checkouts of 91, 156 and 164 in the final to secure a 6-1 victory to be crowned 2009 North Fermanagh Open Darts Champion collecting the winners cheque for £300.……….

A brilliant performance from this fantastic Derry player on winning this 2nd annual event with all of his fellow players wishing him all the best in trying to be crowned World Darts Champion come January 2010 which has seen Daryl qualify for the second year running which will be shown throughout the world on BBC television…

The highest finish of the tournament was also recorded by Daryl Gurney in the final against Paul Mein which was a impressive 164 checkout along with a superb 156 finish……..
