"2014 EVENT" ------ Tyrone Individual Darts Championship
The official Tyrone Individual Darts Championships returned after two years absent and what a quality line up of players who entered and supported these prestigious championships once again which is without doubt a fantastic tournament for Tyrone based players.
Up on 40 players confirmed entry into these prestigious 2014 Tyrone Individual Darts Championships but for whatever reason a number of players couldn't attend leaving a quality field of 32 with the tournament producing a very high standard of play, exciting drama and some fantastic high checkouts with the highest being a brilliant 167.
Campbell Jackson who has been trying to be crowned Tyrone Individual Darts Champion since 2004 has finally achieved his gold last weekend in McAtee's Bar Fintona when he defeated three times champion Mickey Mansell in the final on a 7-6 score-line to be crowned 2014 champion.
The current PDC member overcame the challenge of the following players on route to victory starting his campaign with two impressive 5-0 victories over Paddy Tipp (Omagh) in last-32 and former N.Ireland International Paul Mein (Dungannon) in last-16 and followed that up with another superb 6-5 victory over Justin McGuigan in the 1/4-finals with the help of a brilliant 167 checkout from the champion.
In the semi-finals Campbell produced another fine display to record a fantastic 6-2 win over former runner-up Colin Maxwell (Castlederg) to progress into his first Tyrone Championship final where he would come up against three times champion Mickey Mansell (Clonoe) .
Mickey reached the 2014 final overcoming the following players on route Jim Devine (Ardboe, last-32, 5-0), Simon Collins (Strabane, last-16, 5-4), Davy Guy (Omagh, 1/4-finals, 6-4), Barry Devlin (Clonoe, semi-finals, 6-4).
In the final Mickey raced into a 5-2 lead but Campbell clawed his way back into the match to record a 7-6 victory to be crowned 2014 Official Tyrone Individual Darts Champion for the first time going alongside other great names who has won this prestigious Tyrone title.
Throughout the day a number of players recorded some fantastic checkouts which shows the standard of play these championships produces Gareth McGonigle 100, Barry Devlin 125, Colin Maxwell 144, Tom McBride 149 and the highest finish of the tournament was a brilliant 167 recorded by the champion himself Campbell Jackson and these are the only ones that have been highlighted.
This prestigious event is only open to Tyrone based players with the tournament becoming one of the biggest and recognised tournaments throughout the province never mind the county of Tyrone and all players are reminded that next year's 2015 event will only be limited to 64 players (if received) only open to 16 venues or 16 groups of four.
